A princely state of palatial splendour, ancient forts, vibrant desert culture, and shifting dunes. Rajasthan is India at its most theatrical — and most magnificently itself.

About Rajasthan
Where royalty, desert, and colour converge
Rajasthan is India's largest state and its most visually dramatic. The forts here are not ruins — they are living monuments, many still occupied by the descendants of the rulers who built them. The palaces have become luxury hotels without losing their character. The desert is genuinely beautiful, especially at dusk when the dunes glow amber and the shadows deepen.
Every major city in Rajasthan has its own distinct personality. Jaipur is the organised, rose-pink capital with Mughal and Rajput architecture coexisting magnificently. Udaipur is the dreamy lake city, romantic and reflective. Jaisalmer is a living fort of golden sandstone, literally inhabited and layered with centuries of merchant life. Jodhpur's old city is entirely blue — a photographer's obsession.
Beyond the cities, Rajasthan's wildlife is exceptional. Ranthambhore is one of the best places in India to see tigers in the wild. Jawai offers leopards in a uniquely accessible landscape. Sariska and Kumbhalgarh complete a wildlife circuit that few Indian states can match.

Five Rajasthan experiences that define the state
Each city a different chapter; each landscape a different emotion.
1
Jaipur — The Pink City
The capital of Rajasthan and one of India's great heritage cities. Amber Fort rises magnificently above Maota Lake; the City Palace is still partly inhabited by the royal family; Hawa Mahal's 953 windows create a remarkable lattice facade. The UNESCO-listed Jantar Mantar — a giant astronomical observatory — is one of the most unusual monuments in the country.
2
Udaipur — The Lake City
Built around four lakes, Udaipur is India's most romantic city. The City Palace rises above Lake Pichola in a complex of courtyards, towers, and terraces. The Lake Palace hotel — formerly a royal pleasure palace — floats on the lake itself. Fateh Sagar, Jagdish Temple, and the restored Bagore Ki Haveli add depth to a city that rewards slow exploration.
3
Jaisalmer — The Golden City
A golden sandstone city that rises from the Thar Desert like a mirage — and is actually inhabited. The Jaisalmer Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where families have lived for centuries inside the walls. Patwon Ki Haveli's five mansions are among the finest examples of merchant architecture in India. Desert camp under the stars at Sam Dunes — camel safari at sunset, Rajasthani folk music at night.
4
Jodhpur — The Blue City
Mehrangarh Fort looms over Jodhpur from a 120-metre rock face — one of the largest forts in India, commanding breathtaking views over the old city's blue houses. Inside, Moti Mahal and Phool Mahal are museum-standard examples of royal interior design. The Umaid Bhawan Palace — half museum, half hotel, still occupied by royalty — is among India's finest.
5
Ranthambhore National Park
One of the best places in India to see tigers in their natural habitat. The combination of forest, grassland, and the ruins of Ranthambhore Fort creates a uniquely dramatic wildlife landscape. Jeep and canter safaris into zones 1 to 10, allocated by the forest department, offer reliable tiger sightings — along with leopard, sloth bear, crocodile, and exceptional birdlife.
